The coach said wide receiver Donnie Avery, who was carted off the field with a right knee injury late in the first half on Thursday, has an ACL tear and will likely miss the rest of the season.
"He does have an ACL tear there," Spagnuolo said. "What they'll do is they will let it calm down and at some point he will have surgery and it looks like we will lose him for the season, which is very unfortunate. He was having a terrific game. Donnie is a quality guy and a character guy and we'll miss him."
The team's top wide receiver, Avery had 53 catches during his rookie season in 2008 and led Rams wide receivers with 47 receptions a year ago. His injury creates an opportunity for another wideout to step into his spot.
"Probably between Danny (Amendola) and Mardy Gilyard and a couple other guys we can flip over there, Keenan Burton," Spagnuolo said. "We're going to wait a little bit before we declare any of that, but certainly somebody is going to have to step up there and be the Z (receiver). We've got a few guys to pick from."
