Rams sign Scott Covington

His start for the Rams in the season finale didn't go as hoped, but that shaky performance by quarterback Scott Covington didn't hurt him either.

Covington signed what is believed to be a one-year contract Tuesday for $450,000, giving the Rams two signed quarterbacks on their 2003 roster. Kurt Warner is currently under contract, but is due a $6 million option signing bonus Feb. 27, the day before free agency begins. Marc Bulger becomes an exclusive rights free agent Feb. 28. Jamie Martin is signed for 2003.

Covington was scheduled to become a restricted free agent. The minimum tender for restricted free agents is expected to be $619,000, but teams can sign players to the minimum salary for three accrued seasons, which is $450,000.
