| Biography: |
| Has good initial quickness and suddenness coming off the snap…Uses his
speed to escape the press coverage and is a very good route runner with the
speed and cutting ability to cut and accelerate out of his breaks…Has
outstanding field vision, easily finding the soft spot in the zone…Works
the sidelines well and is very aware of oncoming defenders…Can create
separation on the move and makes good body adjustments going up for the ball…Has
good hands placement and superb hand/eye coordination to extend and catch the
ball at its highest point…Holds on to the ball after the collision and
has the body flexibility to combat for the ball in traffic…More elusive
than fast as a runner, but has an array of wiggle and juke moves to make defenders
miss…Despite his size, he will not back down when facing up to defenders
as a blocker…One of the most exciting players in the Pac-10 Conference
and in the nation…Shaun has the skills to make something happen after
catching the football…A finalist for the Biletnikoff Award, he finished
his career as one of the top pass catchers in the history of ASU football…
Compiled 2867 yards receiving, just 126 shy of the school career-record of 2993
yards by Hall of Famer John Jefferson (1974-77)…His 2867 yards rank sixth
on the Pac-10 Conference’s all-time record list…His 24 touchdown
catches rank third in school annals, topped only by the 25 scores of both Doug
Allen (1981-84) and Keith Poole (1993-96)…His 156 receptions rank third
in school history and ninth on the conference career-record chart.
2002 SEASON
All-American third-team selection by The NFL Draft Report, Associated Press
and The Sporting News…All-Pac 10 Conference first-team choice…Finalist
for the Biletnikoff Award, given to the nation’s top receiver…Set
school season-records with 87 catches for 1405 yards (16.1 avg) and 13 touchdowns,
topping the previous marks of 64 receptions by Ron Fair (1989) and 1144 yards
by Morris Owens (1973)…Only Doug Allen (14 in 1984) had more touchdowns
in a season for the Sun Devils…Added 25 yards on five carries (5.0 avg)
and 29 yards on two punt returns (14.5 avg)…Gained over 100 yards receiving
in five contests.
Nebraska…Gained 73 yards on 7 grabs.
Central Florida…Caught 5 passes for 54 yards and 3 scores.
San Diego State…Had 8 receptions for 175 yards and touchdowns of 72, 33,
29 & 16 yards…His four scoring catches equaled the school record that
he holds (vs. Louisiana-Lafayette in 2001) with John Allen (vs. San Jose State
in 1953).
Stanford…Gained 221 yards on 10 catches, including a 27-yard touchdown…Only
Eric Guliford (232 vs. Houston in 1990) and Ron Fair (277 vs. Washington State
in 1989) gained more yards receiving in a game for the Sun Devils.
