| Born John Russell Niklos in Worthington, Oh…nickname is J.R…attended Thomas-Worthington High (Worthington, Oh.)…lettered three times each in football and track…was named all-region and all-district in football, and all-state and all-America in track…two-time scholar athlete.
Signed by Rams 9/12/02 from Seattle Seahawks practice squad…spent one week on Seahawks practice squad after spending the 2002 preseason with Seattle…originally signed as rookie free agent by Seattle 4/29/02…finished his collegiate career at Western Illinois with 80 receptions for 1,235 yards and eight touchdowns.
Senior: Named to all-Gateway Conference first team as senior…played in 10 games at tight end and collected career-highs in receptions (44) and yards (589) with one touchdown. Junior: Selected to all-Gateway first team…finished third on the team with 15 receptions, fifth on the team with 173 receiving yards, and second in touchdown receptions with three.
