Currently second on the all-time sack list to Reggie White (198) with 186. Smith is the All-time NFL playoff sack leader with 14.5.
He has sacked 69 different quarterbacks in his career; adding Seahawks quarterbacks Matt Hasselback and Trent Dilfer, New Orleans QB Aaron Brooks and Dallas quarterback Quincy Carter to the list in 2001.
Smith is a perennial All-Pro with trips to the Pro Bowl 11 of his 17 seasons and each year from 1992-98. And after posteing 10 sacks in 2000, he set the NFL record for most double-digit sack seasons (13). Holds a second-place tie with Lawrence Taylor for most consecutive seasons with double-digit sacks (seven).
Durable, he has started 243 of a possible 247 games overall during his career. Sacked Carolina QB Steve Beuerlein for a 21-yard loss (9/3/00), a career-long for Smith. Won ninth Player of the Week Award, the most among active players, after 3.0-sack, one safety, five-tackle performance at St. Louis (11/20/00).
Named NFL Defensive Player of the Year in 1990 and 1996.
Collected career-highs of 120 tackles (1996), 54 QB pressures (1996), 19.0 sacks (1990) and four fumble recoveries (1985).
