Pro
Signed a three-year contract with the Bears during the offseason (4/15/02).
Set an NFL record (since the 1970 merger) in Atlanta by starting for his
sixth different NFL team. Coming off a 2001 season in which he recorded the
second highest passing yardage total of his career (2,847) while leading the
NFL with a 115.0 QB rating in the fourth quarter. Went over 20,000 yards
passing for career in 1999 and enters the 2002 season with 23,101 yards. One
of only two QBs in Falcon history (Steve Bartkowski) to ever pass for 400
yards in a game, he led the Falcons to their only Super Bowl in team history
in 1998. Enjoyed career years in fist two seasons in Atlanta with 20 and 25
passing TDs, respectively, earning two consecutive Pro Bowl trips in 1997
and 1998. Established new Atlanta record by throwing at least one TD pass in
27 straight games from 1998-99. Six times in his career has had a passer
rating above the 80.0 mark (93.8 – 1994, 87.8 – 1995, 95.1 – 1997, 100.9 –
1998, 83.5 – 1999, 84.1 – 2001). Ranks third on Atlanta’s Top Ten passing
list with 13,268 career yards. Also played for Houston, Los Angeles Rams,
Phoenix, Tampa Bay and Indianopolis.
College
At the University of Washington, he started 26 consecutive games
and finished third in school history in total offense with 4,442 yards and
TD passes with 32… Capped off a consistent college career that included ten
200-yard passing days by being honored as the Offensive Player-of-the-Game
at the Senior Bowl… Led the Huskies to the Independence Bowl his final
season with 1,739 yards passing and 11 TDs… As a junior, set a school record
with 20 TDs and tied an NCAA record with four season-quarter TD passes in a
game vs. Stanford while leading UW to an 8-3-1 record and a berth in Sun
Bowl… Showed his leadership qualities early in college as he guided the
Huskies of Don James to a 20-17 victory in the Freedom Bowl as a sophomore
in only his fourth collegiate start. |
