Marc Bulger has been ruled out of Sunday's game with the Falcons with a concussion. Here is Scott Linehan's press conference comments:

(Opening Remarks) “Marc Bulger will be out for this game. We will reassess where he’s at next week, probably on Monday. Fakhir Brown did not practice. Dante Hall did not practice and Brett Romberg did not practice. Our limited practice player was (Andy) McCollum. The full practice players were (Drew) Bennett, Torry (Holt) and Hanik Milligan.”

(On the results of QB Marc Bulger’s tests) “He is not clear as to when he’ll be ready. He’s closer, but just not 100 percent. He’s as close to 100 percent as you can get after that. This week is just too soon. We’ll reissue the same type of tests on Monday and if he clears out then there is no reason he shouldn’t be able to play next week.”

(On if Bulger is still experiencing concussion-like symptoms) “He is, but nothing too dramatic, but enough to where it’s not wise to consider playing him. We just declared him out. I knew based on him not being able to play last week and how he felt that there was a possibility that this week (he would not be able to play), but we wanted to wait until we got the test results yesterday. They said he was still experiencing some general symptoms.”

(On who makes the decision) “Everybody together (makes the decision). Certainly doctors. They’re specialists in this area and we leave it to them, our trainers and our doctors. With the neurosurgeon, the CAT scan and the test results, they all factor into the decision. I’m probably the last part of that. We’re not going to put a guy out there that doesn’t clear everything.”

(On if there is a neurosurgeon on staff) “There is a neurosurgeon we use. Sometimes it may be who’s available for that appointment. I’m not sure if there is one specific, but there are a couple that we use that are recommended by Matt (Matava) and Jim (Anderson).”

(On if he spoke with Bulger today) “I talked to him today. Jim (Anderson) gave me the results last night. He said that he had not passed. He said the plan is to evaluate him the first part of next week and try to get him ready for the next game in Cincinnati.”

(On how long it takes to heal from a concussion) “I’m not sure they know. I think they just wait and see. In his case, everybody’s different. I’ve seen some linger on and I’ve seen some (last) a week or two. I don’t think you can put a date on it.”

(On if it was the neurophysc test Bulger failed) “They didn’t clear him. The assumption was made that there is still a chance of that based on how he’s still feeling.”

(On if Bulger has a history of concussions) “I’m not aware of any other ones. I don’t know his whole track record that he has. He’s been banged up some his career. As far as having a concussion, I’m not aware of one.”

(On if CB Ron Bartell would be Brown’s replacement if he was unable to play against Atlanta) “We’re hoping that isn’t the case, but that would be what we would do. I think he’ll be able to go, he just has a really sore tailbone and it really tightened up on him yesterday.”

(On Brown’s tailbone injury) “During the game it didn’t really bother him too much. He came in and got general treatment like guys do after the game on Monday. He actually got treatment again on Tuesday. It was nothing serious enough to even be an injury, but when he started working out here yesterday it really tightened up on him. He tried to go again today and it was very uncomfortable, so we held him out.”

(On if C Brett Romberg is looking “iffy” for Sunday’s game) “Yeah, just based on his tolerance of the pain in that foot. We did another MRI on it and it looks like it’s still healing and nothing he could reinjure, necessarily, I just think it’s very painful. It showed a bone bruise in there, so he’s probably more on the questionable side now.”

(On if he’s worried about the center position with both Romberg and Andy McCollum battling injury) “It’s something we’re going to have to think about as far as for Sunday, but that’s his position – Nick Leckey. He’s played there. We’ll back up that position.”

(On if McCollum got most of the team reps on Wednesday) “Yeah, Leckey and (Dustin) Fry some. Mostly Leckey got what Andy didn’t get, but Andy got more than half of the reps.”

(On the injury bug returning after two weeks without many injuries) “The way I look at it is we have five new starters potentially starting this next game. That’s a great opportunity for those five guys. It’s also a chance for us to step up and play with a new group and play well. If it ends up being two or three new starters or five we have guys that should be really excited to take advantage of that.”

(On if the five new starters include the possibility of WR Brandon Williams as a kick and punt returner) “I’m counting him. I count the special teams. That’s a pretty big part of what we’ve been able to do with Dante. And Brandon did a nice job for us. If he goes, he has some experience now.”

(On if this game will be important in terms of helping determine QB Gus Frerotte future with the Rams) “I don’t really look in the future as far as implications of playing well or not. I think it’s just important that Gus gets another chance to go out and play again and play well. I know he’s the guy that really wants to go out and play well enough to get his football team a win. That’s the way we’re looking at it. It means that if we win, we’ve won three of our last four and that’s what we’re focusing on.”
