When we talk about great Rams wide receivers. Only one number comes to mind.
That number is 80, Isaac Bruce. But before Isaac Bruce their was Henry Ellard.
Henry Ellard of the Los Angeles Rams.
The wide receiver out of Fresno State was very outstanding during his tenure
with the LA Rams. When we look back at Henry Ellard's contributions, we
notice a fierce competitor. And in the season of 1989 Henry Ellard almost
helped the Rams make it to the Super Bowl XXIV. In memory of his great contributions
to the LA Rams, I thought it would be fun to remember some great moments
in 1989 with the future Hall of Famer Henry Ellard.
Week 2 vs Colts.
In Anaheim Stadium, Henry Ellard burned the Colts with a career high 12
receptions for 230 yards and three touchdown's. Beating Hall of Famer Eric
Dickerson's Colts 31-17.
Week 5 vs Falcons.
Henry Ellard caught eight passes for 165 yards and beat the Falcons 26-14.
Week 11 vs Cardinals.
Henry Ellard took over the NFL lead in receiving yards, catching five passes
for 163 yards, including touchdown catches of 49 and 42 yards to beat Phoenix
37-14.
Week 17 vs Eagles.
This was a Playoff game. Henry Ellard caught a 39 yard touchdown that helped
beat the Eagles 21-7.
Week 18 vs Giants.
Henry Ellard caught eight catches for 125 yards and beat the Giants 19-13.
Enough said. Henry Ellard was an awesome receiver and helped his teams be
successful. Henry Ellard holds Individual Records/ Career for the Rams in
Number Receiving Yards(593), Yards Receiving (9,761), and Average Punt Return
(11.3).
When we talk about great receivers in Rams history. Henry Ellard is one
of the great ones to remember.
