Jackson Still not able to Practice

Posted Nov 6, 2008

Rams running back Steven Jackson talked Thursday about if it is realistic that he can practice this week, on if his injury is getting better, on what kind of rehab he is doing, and what he thinks the other running backs can do if he can't play Sunday.

(On if it is realistic that he can practice this week)
“Quite not, a full practice, probably not to be honest with you. I am surely hoping that I come in tomorrow and something miraculous happens today and I can come in and give a full practice because that is what he wants. I have had a discussion with him but I was unable to do it today.”

(On if his injury is getting better)
“It is getting better but with a hamstring, a quad or groin, those kinds of injuries, one day you feel great and the next day the slightest tweak could really set you back. That is what I am dealing with right now. One day I feel great, I feel like I can go and when it is time for me to show and prove that I am ready, it is just not responding the way we want it to.”

(On if he has had any setbacks)
“Monday we had the MRI and it showed that it was some inflammation still in there from the original injury. This MRI was actually worst than the first MRI. Our thoughts are that it was not worst but it was just a hard, tough day and it wasn’t ready and that is why it kind of flamed up on me like that.”

(On what kind of rehab work he is doing)
“The same rehab stuff. Today I was on the bicycle for 30-minutes just making sure my cardio stays up. I get into the pool and that helps me stay in shape with the team. Nothing really serious, it is just a waiting game.”

(On if he is optimistic that he will play)
“I am optimistic. I am very optimistic. I am hoping that maybe even Saturday I can have my own personnel practice to see if I am able to burst and maybe he will let that slide. As of right now, today and yesterday I was not able to give him a full day of work.”

(On if the injury is causing him not the give a burst)
“That is exactly what it is. My change of direction and bursting in and out of holes is just not there yet.”

(On how he thinks the other running backs will do if he can’t play Sunday against the Jets)
“We are definitely going to help those guys out. The offense is really complicated and it is going to take all the other ten guys helping the young guys out. On the sidelines, I am going to try my best to help those guys. One thing about a running back, once he knows where he is going, it is his own ability that will take him there. I think we did a great job of bringing in some guys that have been around the league and kind of understand what is going on. I think they have done a pretty good job these last two days.”
