Rams Record Stands at 3-12

The Rams lost at home to Pittsburgh on Thursday night and fell to 3-12 on the year. On Friday, Scott Linehan addressed the media.

Here are Scott Linehan's comments from Friday:

“The only two injuries coming out of the game, we’ll know more about next week are (Brandon) Chillar has a lower leg strain and (Joe) Klopfenstein had a blow to the head. With a couple of extra days we’ll probably just let them rest and get some rehab time and evaluate them next week.”

(On if the players will be off until after Christmas) “”They had treatment today and were required to come in to meet with their position coaches. They’ll have this weekend off and we’ll practice Monday, then Christmas Day is their Tuesday off and then we’ll have a normal week.”

(On the sideline incident with WR Torry Holt) “When you are 3-12, I’m the first one to say everything is not all that pleasant. No on likes losing. Exactly what I said last night is exactly what I’ll say today and tomorrow.”

(On if he was surprised that WR Torry Holt lost his cool) “Torry doesn’t like to lose. He’s a competitor. I don’t think anybody on our football time is happy with our record and the result of the game. I’m not surprised. People are frustrated. It doesn’t surprise me at all. I’d be disappointed if guys weren’t frustrated.”

(On what Holt was mad about on the sidelines) “It was nothing specific. It was the situation we got in, in fourth down. That was it. The rest was between him and I. It’s over as far as I’m concerned.”

(On giving WR Derek Stanley another opportunity to return kicks) “He hasn’t had a lot of chances. His first game last week…to be honest with you there wasn’t real good blocking a week ago. He didn’t have a lot of chances and I thought it was a much better job, at least in the first half, of this game and he made a couple nice runs. He’s a good young talent and it was good to see him come back and have a better outing.”

(On confidence level of the team) “I don’t know that we are going unconfident. We are going about our business we have been very competitive especially the second half of the year. We haven’t been as competitive in the second half (of games) for a number of reasons. Obviously, if we were winning our confidence level would be higher. It’s not where it needs to be that is for sure.”

(On QB Marc Bulger getting hit in the head with a ball at practice) “I didn’t know it until the next week. I wasn’t even aware of it and he told me actually, after two days of practice when we ended up not playing him. The week before he felt that might have set him back. But he had not mentioned it to me until then.”

(On Pittsburgh’s success in the run game, particularly in the fourth quarter) “They were able to [run the ball successfully] the whole game. It wasn’t just the fourth quarter. It hasn’t been very good half for us or very good quarter for us. We haven’t been able to stop people and we haven’t been able to penetrate the other team’s side of the field. Other than the Seattle game, we’ve had one snap in the second half in the red zone since New Orleans. We have to get down there and give ourselves chances to score points and we have to stop people.”

(On if the Rams were overpowered by the Steelers run game) “I think they did a nice job of executing their run game. They kind of went back to what they’ve done before and ran a lot of power football and were able to get the ball on the perimeter and the result was some long runs. We didn’t force the ball very well and when you do that, you give up long runs. The combination of establishing the inside run game and getting the ball to the perimeter were reasons they had a pretty good day running the ball.”

(On the future of WR Isaac Bruce) “It’s all speculation. We do all of our personnel evaluations and players make their own decisions once the season is over. Until the season is over, I really don’t have any comment on anything as far as what’s going to happen when the season is over.”
