Rams Practice Notes

The Rams had their final day of practice on Friday preparing for the 2-2 Arizona Cardinals.

n      Isaac Bruce (hamstring) and Cory Chavous (pectoral) have been ruled out for the Rams game on Sunday.  Drew Bennett will start at wide receiver with Jerome Carter starting at safety.  Also expect Todd Johnson to play in a number of pass situations.

n      The Rams will only have to make one decision when it comes to the inactive list on Sunday.  Steven Jackson, Dane Looker, Adam Goldberg, Tye Hill, Raonall Smith, Bruce, and Chavous have all been ruled out for Sunday.  That leaves just one player that has to be listed on the game day inactive list.

n      Another intriguing angle is the match up of Rams wide receiver Torry Holt and his brother Terrence Holt, who plays safety for the Arizona Cardinals.  This will be the third match up of the Holts, meeting twice previously with the Detroit Lions.  Holt went on to talk about the Cardinals, “they look good, they are flying around, aggressive, confident.  They are flying high and feel like they have a really good chance of winning the West, and they are playing, and speaking with my brother, they are preparing that way.  It is another great challenge for us as a football team.”  When asked about playing against his brother Holt said, “I think he is doing well, I think he is playing very well.  I know some of the things that he can do well and some of the things he can’t and he says the same thing about me.  I’m just hoping I will be able to be on the better side of that come Sunday.”

n      Some fans have wondered why TE Dominique Byrd, second year man out of USC, is not getting more playing time with the blocking problems Joe Klopfenstein has had so far this season.  Head coach Scott Linehan said that Byrd was a project that needed to continue to work at the offense if he wanted to make an impact.  There are thoughts out at Rams Park that Byrd has not made a serious commitment to improving as a football player and that he still has a number of immature tendencies.
