The Rams signed running back Stephen Davis to a 1-year contract
Friday worth $850,000 that includes a $40,000 signing bonus. He will count
$465,000 against the salary cap.
In addition to the signing
bonus, the Rams guaranteed $425,000 of his base salary. Davis also signed a
split contract that will pay him less ($325,000) if he ends up on injured
reserve.
Davis wanted guaranteed money because of $275,000 in
injury protection he was entitled to after ending the 2005 season on injured
reserve. If Davis is on the Rams' opening-day roster, the entire base salary of
$810,000 will become guaranteed, but would be superceded by the split if he is
injured.
