Little by little, the
Rams are proceeding toward having all of their draft picks signed in time
for the start of training camp July 26.
Tuesday, the Rams signed running back Lamar Gordon to a four-year contract
worth $1.969 million that includes a signing bonus of $609,000. As is
the norm for most draft-pick deals after the first round, the base salaries
are the league minimum each year: $225,000 this year; $300,000 in 2003;
$380,000 in 2004 and $455,000 in 2005.
His cap charge for 2002 is $377,250: the $225,000 base salary plus one-fourth
of the signing bonus ($152,250).
Gordon joins cornerback Travis Fisher (second round) and long snapper
Chris Massey (seventh round) as Rams draft choices that have signed contracts.
Massey signed a three-year deal on Friday for a total of $932,000 that
includes a $27,000 signing bonus. His cap charge for this season is $234,000.
Still unsigned are linebacker Robert Thomas (first round), wide receiver
Eric Crouch (third), guard Travis Scott (fourth), linebacker Courtland
Bullard (fifth) and safety Steve Bellisari (sixth).
The Rams' rookie cap this year is $3.211 million. They have used a total
of $1,066,250 for their three signed picks.
