Can the Rams
Rebound?
by ClanRam writer, Don Ackerman
It's been forever
since the Rams and the world watched Adam Vinatieri win the Vince Lombardi
trophy for the New England Patriots dashing the Ram's hope for a second
title.
The big question
for this year will be can the Rams rebound?
Right now,
things look great. The free agency market has been good to the Rams (more
about that as we get closer to kickoff), and the coaching staff is preparing
for another title run by adding Ernie Zampese's offensive expertise. The
real question will be how the players react. I'm excited to find out if
the players can bring it one more time and put the fear of the Saint Louis
Rams back into the league.
The Rams took
a big hit by losing the Super Bowl in two big ways. After a dominating
year, the Pat's gave all teams hope by containing the Rams' offense and
defense. Secondly, the loss gave the anti-Ram fans all they needed to
see. In Minnesota, most people I talked to were rooting against the Rams
in the big game. When I asked why, I was told it was because the Rams
have been so successful. I took a double-take - because the Rams have
been so successful? Are you telling me one Super Bowl win, one wildcard
round exit, and a Super Bowl loss are "so successful?" I can't say I see
it that way. The Rams haven't really dominated the league enough to be
hated but in the new 4-and-12-one-year-and-Super-Bowl-champs-the-next
league, being good 2 out of three years gets you hated.
I don't like
it but I can tell you one thing - if the Rams can bring it to San Diego
and walk away champs, I'll be happy to be hated and feared. Until then,
I'm not satisfied and I hope the Saint Louis Rams aren't either.
Ram on,
Don
