Rams Have Two Weeks to Stew

The ride home from Detroit must have been bitter. After 7 months of preparing and fighting for NFL supremacy, the Rams let an opportunity to host the playoffs get away. After 16 full games, 66 quarters of football (including the two overtime affairs), the Rams played bad football for the final two quarters of the NFL regular season and let home field advantage out of their grasp.

Rams Have Two Weeks to Stew
By Rams Nation's Don Ackerman

Now, the Rams have two weeks to stew on their pathetic 20-30 loss to the 5-11 Lions. Hopefully, it will be a foul-tasting stew and drive the Rams to better future performances.

Are 12 wins enough? No way. The Rams are really focused on 3 wins starting next Saturday. Having a week off allows the Rams to focus. About the loss in Detroit, some fans may think that the loss might keep the Rams focused. After all, how many consecutive weeks can you win and keep the drive going? The New England Patriots have won 12 straight games. For that long, they have kept winning through skill, luck, and circumstances. Can they make it 15? Hard to know but unlikely.

But the Rams should be stewing. They should be thinking about the opportunity lost in Detroit last Sunday. Hopefully, they are mindful of the task at hand and remembering that you cannot look ahead. In the NFL, you cannot take anything for granted. If you do, it will be taken away. It's really that simple.

So I'm still not happy about that loss. But I do like a slap in the face that should wake a team up. Perhaps the Rams were due to lose focus. If that's the case, I'm glad it was last weekend and not next weekend.

I could say, "On to Houston" but I won't. I'll say, "Bring on the first team and we are not thinking beyond them."
