Rams Win in the Rain 23-21 at Soldier Field

On this weekend getaway. Yours truly was in the City of the Wind. The Windy
City, Chicago. My wife the big Bears fan that she is demanded this trip versus
my Rams. It would be an adventure filled with times of joy and the end result
ending in disbelief.
But either way, the contest was well worth the price. New Soldier Field is
great. The stadium is a blend of old and new. The Tradition of the Bears mystic
is truly alive. I was greeted well by all the Bears fans. They are true sports
in my opinion.
Having the view from the North End was fantastic. The atmosphere was not the
greatest come gametime, for a guy use to a dome covered stadium. I chilled my
buns off for four quarters in the rain. Witnessing a game of ups and downs and
finally a break and bingo a game decided by two points.
Where in the world was Kurt Warner? It was a question being asked at some point
during the game after Marc Bulger had struggled.
Marc Bulger came out strong off the gate. with impressive throws to Bruce and
holt respectively. But then was intercepted by Charles Tillman on 3rd and 9
on the Rams 39 yardline. Momentum change. Lucky for Bulger, the defense got
the ball back right away. When Jarametrius Butler intercepted Chris Chandler.
Bukger finished with 29 of 46 for 240 yards and two touchdowns.
Early penalties truly affected the rhythm of the offense. Only allowing Jeff
Wiliness to put out a 41 yard field goal to put the Rams up 3-0 with 1:18 left
in the first quarter.
Give credit to both defenses. They truly owned the game. Especially the Bears
defense which sacked Bulger three time in the sixth series. Talk about being
placed between the buns. Marc was slammed for losses of eight, six and eleven
yards respectively. It was sack snack time for Urlacher and company early.
In the second quarter after the Tommy Polley interception, RW McQuarters returned
a 60 yard punt for a score. Bears 7-3. Special teams coverage was very bad all
game long. Poor tackling was also a factor.
The Bears would focus and strike like a well oiled machine offensively in the
fourth quarter. when Chris Chandler connected with Dez White with an eleven
yard touchdown pass. giving the Bears a 21-20 lead on the Rams with 5:58 left
in the fourth.
Marshall Faulk was held early for two quarters by the defense with minimal
gains.
Faulk finished with 20 carries for 103 yards and he caught three passes for
21 yards.
But in the Third quarter, Marshall broke out on fourth and one with a 52 yards
sprint run to setup a score for Torry Holt and cut the Bears lead to 14-10.
Mike Martz stated on the run," We were just trying to make things happen."
As for the Bears. This team is going to be good in time with a descent young
quarterback. The wait is very frustrating to all the diehards and traditionalist.
As for the win. This win showed will power in harsh conditions and it demonstrates
good character especially being down early before the half. The word was hold
them in the stands. But in the end I went home a winner as a Rams fan. Better
luck next time my dear. It was an event I will never forget. And hats off to
all the loyal Bears fans for their hospitality in the stands. Chicago was great
for me. And a win was not bad either.
With a victory the Rams at 7-3 are now in the playoff mix and watch out Seattle
here we come. As for now the Cardinals once more. Win this game and road statistics
will change forever.
