Ran Nation's: A Fan View

One good thing about bye week is I can catch up!
Being a Rams fan from the Los Angeles days, the football Cardinals do not mean much to me. However, to many Saint Louisians, it's a distant faded memory of cardinal disappointments.

Same Old Cards (Rams Roll 37 to 13)
by Ram Nation's Don Ackerman

Sitting next to me was an ex-Saint Louis Cardinals football fan. As the game progressed, Dave (pictured with Diane) expected the worse. He's a Rams fan today but when he said, "Same Old Cards" it had a special and probably painful meaning.

Last Sunday, it was Cardinals at Saint Louis which still sounds odd to me. My daughter doesn't remember seeing a Los Angeles Ram game live so for her it's always been the Saint Louis Rams except on ESPN Classic. But for the town of Saint Louis, they remember. They remember and they wish Bidwell a nice Saturday but an awful Sunday. And they got what they wanted Sunday.

This game was great from the start. The Rams came out firing. The D was buzzing and the Cardinals didn't look like the team that beat Green Bay the previous week. Perhaps that helped the Rams. The plucky Card's got their W and a repeat was not likely from the historically bad football team from the desert.

Wilkins Delivers!

I have been a fan of Jeff Wilkins since the day he moved from San Francisco to the Rams. At San Fran, Wilkins was a weapon and a 3-point sniper. To take him away from the Whiners and bring him to the Rams was the ultimate coup for me. Years later, he pit stops in Mike Martz's doghouse but he'll always be special to me.

I couldn't be happier to see him succeed in 2003. Jeff's been great! He's 2nd in the league in scoring (behind the Colts' ) and he's just about automatic making 10 of 11 field goals and 10 of 10 extra points. Unfortunately, I saw his first miss. Jeff missed a 39 yarder wide to the right. However, I felt much better since he nailed a 53-yarder to end the first half. Sweet!

Happy to celebrate with the Rev

I was happy to be there as Isaac Bruce broke the record for receiving yards passing coach Henry Ellard. He was my favorite Ram from the LA days and it was great to wear my LA Rams jersey to the game. Bruuuuuuuce!

Field Goals Make Me Nervous

Although I love Wilkins consistently adding 3 points to the board, I do get a little nervous when the Rams have trouble scoring touchdowns. Because the Whiners couldn't get in the end zone, the Rams were able to score touchdowns and beat San Francisco. Because the Rams settled on field goals, the Rams lost to the Seahawks when they came back to beat the Rams. At the end of the third quarter, it was 23 to 13. The score was much closer than the game and I wanted the Rams to put the Cardinals away. Well, I give the Rams credit, they tacked on 14 more points while shutting out Arizona in the fourth quarter. Well done! I hope the Rams use Wilkins to boot extra points when the Rams host Atlanta next Monday night.

Ram on,
Don
