The Roving Ram - Rounds the Horn

- Faulk vs. Dunne: And the Winner Is…
After less than two hours, a jury awarded the civil case against Marshall Faulk
to the runningback sensation from St. Louis. Dunne had originally filed the
suit against Faulk on allegations that he had abused her, but the jury found
that Ms. Dunne had abused the legal system by filing against Faulk. The jury
awarded Marshall $125 even though he only sought $1 in damages. Scott Rosenblum,
Faulk’s attorney, accused Ms. Dunne of extortion. "You cannot extort
the truth, you cannot blackmail reputation, and you cannot exploit a man for
your own gain," Rosenblum stated. Let this be a lesson to you, kids. Never
try to sue the NFL’s best runningback when your checkbook is low.
- Sanders Snubs Michigan Hall of Fame
Barry Sanders always said he wasn’t about awards and what not. Apparently,
he wasn’t kidding. The former Detroit Lion sent his 19-year-old son and
wife to accept his induction into the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame. "I
know this is actually anticlimactic for every one that was hoping he could be
here," Lauren Sanders for Mr. Sanders. "Up until the very last minute,
he thought that he was going to be able to make it. He is actually in Oklahoma,
he had some other business commitments that he could not change."
- Doctor to Miller: Call it Quits
A doctor has examined Jamir Miller’s surgically repaired Achilles’
tendon and has advised the former Cleveland Brown to retire. "He got a
very discouraging medical report," Miller's agent, Leigh Steinberg, stated.
"The Achilles' injury is very serious. He's seriously considering retirement,
and is in the last stages of making a decision. He has been medically advised
not to play football," Steinberg said. "He had been hoping it would
improve. The last time he played, he was a Pro Bowler. It's sort of sad."
- Former Cowboy and Cyclone Heywood Passes On
Ennis “The Menace” Haywood, a former ISU runningback who terrorized
defenses in the Big XII has passed on. Heywood was taken to the hospital on
Saturday after vomiting in his sleep, he was then placed on life support which
the family decided to remove him from on Sunday. "He was so well thought
of by his teammates and, in my personal time with him, he lifted me up with
his personality," Cowboys owner Jerry Jones stated on Sunday. "It's
just a tragedy." The thoughts and prayers of the Gridiron Gateway family
go out to the Haywoods.
The Roving Roundup: Ravens’ assistant coach in hot water; Redskins
sign Zellner, Bucs ink Golden and the Eagles pluck a punter
Baltimore Ravens assistant coach Bennie Thompson was charged with violating
a protective order after a woman claimed he threatened her over the phone. "He
spoke to her. She says it was a threat, but he swears he didn't even raise his
voice. The call certainly wasn't to harass her in any way," lawyer Terry
Lavenstein said. The Washington Redskins have inked DE Peppi Zellner. Zellner
spent the first four seasons of his career in Dallas where he started 17 games
in the last two seasons. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have resigned LB Jack Golden
to a one-year deal on Monday. The four year vet had 13 special-teams tackles
and forced one fumble. Finally, the Eagles have snagged record-setting punter
Kyle Richardson and signed him to a one-year deal. "We're happy to add
a veteran punter with big-game experience," Eagles head coach Andy Reid
stated. "Kyle will come in and compete with two young guys for that position."
That’s all for today. Be sure to check back tomorrow as we continue the
work week with more and more R&R. Take care, all.
