The Roving Ram - Rounds the Horn

- Conwell on His Way to Saints
Much to the Rams Nation’s chagrin, tight end Ernie Conwell will be suiting
up in New Orleans next season. On Monday, Conwell agreed to a five-year deal
with the club. "In addition to his abilities and accomplishments on the
field, Ernie has also exhibited outstanding leadership qualities during his
time in St. Louis," Saints GM Mickey Loomis said. We here at Gridiron Gateway
wish Ernie well in his pursuits in New Orleans.
- Tebucky Gets Lucky In Nawhleans
Strong Safety Tebucky Jones finally has a new home in New Orleans after what
was quite a lengthy process on the Saints’ behalf. Jones became somewhat
expendable when the Patriots picked up former San Diego Charger Rodney Harrison
in March. In return, New England will receive a third-round and seventh-round
draft pick this year and a fourth-round pick in 2004. The Saints now acquire
a player that head man Jim Haslett believes will immediately upgrade his secondary.
- 2003 Starting Bengals QB: Jon Kitna
New head man in Cincinatti, Marvin Lewis has made his position clear: Jon Kitna
is the starting quarterback in 2003, with or without Carson Palmer. Lewis isn’t
about shuffling quarterbacks with little thought, he wants a sure shot starter
and he’s got it in Kitna, for better or for worse. "Jon enters in
with confidence in himself,'' Lewis stated. "And I think this football
team has confidence in him.'' It will be interesting to see just what the Bengals
decide to do come draft day.
- Mitchell Inks with Jags; Is Brady Done?
Former Nebraska tight end Johnny Mitchell has signed on with the Jacksonville
Jaguars on Monday causing rumors to swirl about current Jaguar tight end Kyle
Brady. Mitchell impressed the Jaguar brass enough in mini-camp that he garnered
a one-year base pay deal with the Floridian franchise. Jacksonville has been
trying to get Brady to restructure his contract to help with cap space issues,
but the tight end has been uncooperative as of late and missed this weekend’s
minicamp.
- Hall of Famer Wilson Resigns from Cardinal Organization
Larry Wilson, a man whose talents in the NFL earned him a spot in it’s
Hall of Fame is putting an end to his 43-year career with the Arizona Cardinals
effective May 30th. "Larry Wilson personifies what made the NFL great,"
stated team owner Bill Bidwill, who announced Wilson's retirement Monday. "His
competitiveness was his strength and he had a feel for the game, a real nose
for the ball. He was a leader as a player, and he's been a leader since."
Wilson made famous the safety blitz during his 13 years in the league. He managed
franchise records in interceptions, interception yardage and holds club single-game
records for single-game INT return yardage and longest INT return.
- NFL States Rogers Had Diluted Drug Test
Charlie Rogers, an All-American wide receiver from Michigan State University,
reportedly had excessive water in his urine when he took a February drug test.
The NFL told Rogers that excessive water is regarded as a masking agent according
to the league’s drug policy. Kevin Poston, Rogers’ agent stated,
"He had to go to the bathroom for them at 5:30 in the morning and with
people standing all around him. He couldn't go, so they gave him a lot of water
and 30 minutes later, he did.”
That’s the dirt that’s fit to dish for the weekend review and your

the best Rams and NFL coverage on the web.
