- Spurrier Tries To Smooth Over Redskins-Jets Situation
Washington Redskins head man Steve Spurrier tried to let the New York franchise
know that there needn’t be any bad blood between the two organizations.
"If there's any ill-will or bad-feeling between the Jets and the Redskins,
I don't think it's on the coaching level or the player level," Spurrier
stated. "It just seemed like they had players, free agents and restricted
free agents that filled our needs. ... It just happened that way."
The Redskins have raided the Jets’ cabinet taking 4 players: Chad Morton,
John Hall, Randy Thomas and Laveranues Coles. Morton was added to the Redskin
roster on Monday after an arbitrator ruled that the Jets didn’t properly
match his offer sheet. The ruling was yet another blow to the Jets organization
after Terry Bradway, Jets General Manager, stated that Dan Snyder was overpaying
free agents. If there is any bad blood, the two teams meet on September 4th,
so they can settle their problems there.
- Texans Add Mack Attack
The Houston Texans made a new acquisition for their backfield on Wednesday
inking former Jacksonville Jaguar Stacey Mack. Mack started 13 of 50 games while
in Jacksonville while gaining 1,409 yards on 372 carries with 19 TDs to show
for it. He also snagged 34 balls for 244 yards and another score. "We are
very happy with the improvement we made to our offense with the addition of
Stacey Mack,’’ Charley Casserly, general manager of the Texans said.”Stacey
is a powerful running back who has a good chance to make an impact on our rushing
game.''
- Lions Give Holmes a Holmes Sweet Home
(Try saying that 3 times fast.) The Detroit Lions added some fire to their
defensive prowess adding Earl Holmes to the linebacking corp. For most of Holmes’
seven years, he lead his respective teams in tackles. Holmes was released by
the Cleveland Browns after one year with the franchise, found a new home in
Detroit. Holmes will be signing a three-year contract with the Lions which will
give Earl $1.75 million between base pay and his signing bonus in 2003.
- Seahawks Snatch DT Away From Patroits’ Grasp
The New England Patriots were looking for some help clogging the middle in
their defensive line. They thought they had found their man in Cedric Woodard,
a stout veteran defender from the Seattle Seahawks. The ‘Hawks, however,
matched the restricted free agent offer that Woodard looked to sign last Friday.
"He's a good young player," Seattle Head Coach Mike Holmgren said.
"We're not going to lose him."
- Bengals Snag Wide Receiver Leverette
The Cincinatti Bengals, looking to make up some ground with the other teams
in the NFL, nabbed wide receiver Kwazeon Leverette to a two-year deal. Leverette,
who played for the Syracuse Orangemen, originally signed on with the Bengals
before being waived after Cincinatti’s third preseason game. He did not
play for another squad in 2002.
That’s what’s on the docket for Wednesday, April 9th in the year
of our Rams, 2003. I’ll see you all tomorrow for the latest update of
the Roving Ram here at Gridiron Gateway. Take care.
